Wine Philosophy & Varieties
Eikendal pursues a philosophy of minimal intervention in their winemaking, letting terroir show through. They grow and produce a variety of wines, both reds and whites. Some of their prominent grape varieties include: Reds: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz (Syrah) among others. Whites: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc. Their flagship red blend is called Eikendal Classique. One example of their wine-making style: their Pinotage 2015 was produced from trellised, non-irrigated vines, hand-picked, with long slow fermentation, and matured in older Burgundian oak barrels for 12 months. It shows perfumes of pomegranate and strawberry, with a mineral core and fresh finish, age-ability to about six years.
