About Savage Wines

Savage Wines is the creation of winemaker Duncan Savage, a highly respected figure in the South African wine scene. Duncan studied at Elsenburg Agricultural College in Stellenbosch and began his career at Cape Point Vineyards, where he spent 14 years crafting world-class white wines renowned for their saline notes, minerality, and ageing potential. In 2011, Duncan launched Savage Wines as a side project, and by 2016 the acclaim his wines received allowed him to dedicate his full attention to his own label. That same year, he purchased a cellar in Salt River, Cape Town, where he continues to produce his wines today.

Philosophy and Vineyards

Duncan Savage sources grapes from some of the Western Cape’s most distinctive vineyards, with a strong emphasis on sites that are maritime in nature. Many of these vineyards grow on granitic soils, which impart finesse, purity, and a distinct mineral character to the wines. His winemaking philosophy favours earlier picking, balance, and freshness, with the use of whole clusters where appropriate. These choices reflect his focus on producing wines with elegance, refinement, and age-worthiness.

The Wines

Savage Wines offers a compelling portfolio that showcases both classic and unconventional varietals, crafted with precision and respect for terroir:
